Chapter 11: Biomechanical Flashcards
Peripheral nerve injury order of return:
pain, moving touch, static light touch, touch localization
moving two point discrimination
Normal score: 2 mm in horizontal orientation, proximal to distal
Static two point discrimination
Normal score: 5 mm in longitudinal orientation
Safe position splint
intrinsic-plus splint. wrist 20-30 degree extension, MCPs 70-90 degrees flexion, IPs extended, thumb abducted and extended.
Splint for brachial plexus injury
flail arm splint: it provides the needed stability at both the shoulder and elbow for functional positioning of the hand.
Splint for radial nerve palsy
Dynamic wrist, finger, and thumb extension splint
Splint for median nerve injury
Opponens splint, C-bar (hand in C position), or thumb post splint (hold thumb in abduction)
Splint for ulnar nerve injury
dynamic/static splint to position MPs in flexion
Splint for cubital tunnel syndrome
elbow splint at 30 degrees flexion
De Quervains splint
thumb splint, includes wrist, IP joint free
Skier’s thumb splint
hand-based thumb splint
Flexor tendon surgery splint
dorsal protection splint
Swan neck splint
silver rings or buttonhole splint
Boutonniere splint
silver rings or PIP extension splint
Muscle weakness spling (ALS, SCI, Guillain-Barre)
Balanced forearm orthosis (BFO), deltoid sling, suspension sling
