Built in reflecting surface which causes light to be pushed through front of bald instead of the middle ring around the entire bald. Used for downlighting in the can or track lighting.
R-reflector
R20
Incandescent bulb type:
Created in response to EPACT which requires reflector bulbs to meet minimum standards. Bulk reflector in neck of bold redirects lost light forward. Used for downlighting.
BR-bulk reflector
BR 30, BR 40
Incandescent bulb type:
Also created in response to EPACT. Reflector shape increases the overall lumen output by redirecting lost light at the sides forward. Used for downlighting.
ER-elliptical reflector
ER30
Incandescent bulb type:
Have an aluminum reflector in a parabola shape. Covered with a hard glass lens to control light beams. Use unprotected outdoors because glass can withstand weather. Used for downlighting.
PAR- parabolic aluminized reflector
PAR 16, PAR 20, PAR 30, PAR 30 longneck, PAR 38
Incandescent bulb type:
Have a mirrored reflector. Used for accent and shop lighting.
MR-mirror reflector
MR 16, MR 11 (limited use)
Incandescent bulb type:
Shaped like a cylinder tube. Can be incandescent, fluorescent or HID. Used for everything.
T-tube
T6 (incandescent)
Fluorescent bulb type:
Designated according to type, wattage, diameter, color and method of starting.
example: F32T8WW/RS =
32 W, 8/8 inches tubular, warm white, rapid start
T – tube
T2 – T 12
Fluorescent bulb type:
These lamps bent into a U-shaped and mounted on a base that house is a ballast. Can be screwed into incandescent luminaires.
CF – compact fluorescent
T4 or T5
Hi intensity discharge:
Electric arc is passed through high-pressure mercury vapor that produces ultraviolet and visible light. Primarily blue/green color. Moderately high efficacy at 30–50 lm/W. Life of 24,000 hours. Used for large area overhead lighting in factories/warehouses/sports complexes/streetlights.
