Menorrhagia
Excessive or prolonged menstruation at regular intervals
Metrorragia
Excessive or prolonged menstruation at irregular intervals
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Uterine bleeding with no structural cause
-Usually due to hormonal imbalance
Anovulatory cycle
Proliferative phase without secretory phase
-Common cause of dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Acute endometritis
Fever, uterine bleeding, pain
-may be due to retained products of conception
Chronic endometritis
Plasma cells and lymphocytes in endometrium
-same causes as acute + IUD
Endometrioma
Chocolate cyst (hemorrhagic) in ovary -Increased cancer risk
Adenomyosis
Endometrial tissue in myometrium
Endometrial Polyps
Associated with Tamoxifen
Endometrial hyperplasia
Increased gland:stroma ratio
- Associated with unopposed estrogen stimulation (HRT, obesity, polycystic ovary)
- May precede uterine cancer
Hyperplasia types
Simple - crowded glands
Complex - branching glands
Hyperplasia atypia
Stratification of nuclei, mitosis
