(P4) Resp Patho: Sarcoidosis of the lung Flashcards
Identify:
Sarcoidosis of the lung
- Necrosis around granuloma
- lymphocytes
* *3. giant cells***
* *4. epithelioid cells*** - BTNL gene
- lymph nodes, spleen, liver, bone barrow, skin, salivary glands, muscle
Identify:
What are the causes of this lesion?
Sarcoidosis of the lung
- Worldwide disease affecting all races and sexes
- Causes are multifactorial – environmental and genetic (BTNL gene)
This lesion can also affect what other organs?
Sarcoidosis of the lung
Lung, lymph nodes, spleen, liver, skin, uveal tract, bone marrow
This lesion is considered to be what type of inflammation?
Granulomatous inflammation
NO caseous necrosis
IN
Sarcoidosis of the lung
what is scattered in the interstitium of the lung?
Multiple, sarcoid granulomas are scattered in the interstitium of the lung
Identify this lesion:
What type of cells are present?
Sarcoidosis of the lung
Granuloma - lymphocytes, giant cells, epithelioid cells (macrophages)
Asteroid bodies (star-shaped crystals) may be seen inside giant cell
Schaumann bodies (small calcifications with a laminar structure) may be present inside Langhans cells
Slide:
Micro presentation:
Lymphocytes on the edges, central part with epithelioid cells (not just on the edge like regular granuloma).
Giant cells, Many granulomas
