(P4) Cardiac: Malignant nephrosclerosis (H&E) & (Azan) Flashcards
Identify:

Malignant nephrosclerosis (H&E)
- azan
- fibrinoid necrosis

Identify the slide:

Malignant nephrosclerosis (H&E)

Identify slide:

Malignant nephrosclerosis (azan)

- Blue: Connective tissue
- Dark pink: tufts of corpuscles with fibrin 3. H &E
- Periarteritis nodosa
- fibrinoid necrosis
- Azan stain is used to stain the fibrin. Fibrin is characteristic for this lesion because it deposits into the vessel wall after injury to the endothelium

Malignant nephrosclerosis (H&E)

Identify and Define:

- Malignant nephrosclerosis (H&E)*
- -Form of renal disease associated with malignant phase of hypertension*
- -S_mall muscular arteries_ – segmental dilation as a result of necrosis of smooth muscle cells*

Malignant nephrosclerosis is descirbed by what occurances dealing with fibrin and proteins?

Fibrin and the entry of plasma proteins into the vessel wall.
-The combination of cell necrosis and deposition of plasma proteins is termed – fibrinoid necrosis.
T-he period of acute injury is rapidly followed:
A. Smooth muscle proliferation
B. Striking concentric increase in the number of layers of smooth muscle cells
Result – onion-skin appearance
what are the complications of Malignant nephrosclerosis ?
Complications
Increased intracranial pressure, renal failure, 50% of mortality within 3 months of onset
Note: elevated BP (severe or malignant)
-Fibrinoid Necrosis of walls of small renal arteries, afferent arerioles, glomerular loops.
Malignant nephrosclerosis

Micro:
1) Fibrinoid Necrosis of arterioles: wall of blood vessel is eosinophilic and granular (red in Azan staining)
2) Hyperplastic arteriolitis: onion -skinning

This staining also is helpful in the diagnisis of the following lesion presented on the slide during this test?

Polyarteritis Nodosa

This staining method seen on the slide is also helpful in the diagnisis of the following vascular disease?

Periarteritis nodosa
(inflammation of the outer coat and tissues surrounding an artery)
