(P4) Cardiac: Uremic cardiomyopathy Flashcards
1
Q
Identify Slide:
A
Uremic cardiomyopathy
2
Q
- Uremic cardiomyopathy*
- What type of Cardiomyopathy is it?*
A
Type of secondary cardiomyopathy
- Dilated, hypertrophic or rarely restrictive*
- • Four‐chamber hypertrophy and/or dilatation are evident*
- • Most muscle cells are hypertrophied with enlarged nuclei, but some are attenuated, stretched, and irregular*
- • Interstitial and endocardial fibrosis of variable degree is present*
3
Q
Uremic cardiomyopathy
Uremia forms due to what condition and resulting in what?
A
Uremia in chronic renal failure
Failure of renal excretory function, metabolic and endocrine alteration in renal damage
Fibrinous or serofibrinous pericarditis
Fibrin layer on surface of pericardium
Cardiomyopathy
4
Q
- Uremic cardiomyopathy*
- Leads to?*
A
Leads to enlargement of cardio myocardium
Note: If without known cause – primary
- Some causes of disease:* uremia, alcoholic
- Normal heart around 300-350 grams.*
With cardiomyopathy can weight up to 900 grams.
5
Q
Uremia
A
- Cardio myofiber becomes larger, split ends, irregular distribution–Fiber scars at split ends of myocardial fibers of myocardium
- Increase in interstitial tissue
- Whole myocardium is enlarged–Enlarged myocardium usually develop clinical insufficiency
