Overview: muscles of neck and trunk - Charlotte Flashcards
What does the cervical ventral muscles do?
Chiefly, flexors of the neck.
What does the cervical dorsal muscles do?
Extensor of the neck.
What does the deep juxtavertebral muscles do?
Are involved in Rotation and lateral flexion
The muscles of the poll
Extension and lateral flexion of the head.
Flexor muscles of the neck and trunk? (Name 4 muscles)
Brachiocephalicus Sternocephalicus Scalenus Longis capitis (long muscle of the head)
Name 8 extensor muscles of the neck
Trapezius Omotransvervse Rhomboid Cervical serratus Splenius Semispinalis capitis (large complexes) Longissimus capitis and atlantis (small complexes) Spinalis cervicis
Juxtavertebral muscles (3 muscles)
Longus colli (long muscle of the neck) Multifidus cervicis Intertransverse
Muscles of the poll (3)
Dorsal straight muscles (mit major and minor) Caudal oblique muscle of the head Lateral and ventral straight muscles of the head
Muscles of the trunk. Flexors. Split into two (abdomen and and lumbo-iliac region)
External obliques Internal obliques Rectus abdominis Transverse abdominis
Muscles of the trunk (flexors) (3)
Psoas major Psoas minor Quadratus lumorum
Extensor muscles of the trunk (3)
Iliocostal Longissimus Spinalis thoracis
Juxtavertebral muscle Of the trunk
Multifidus (transverse spinous)
What are the two major system of the muscles of the neck & trunk?
The deep juxtavertebral muscles, responsible for maintaining control of the intervertebral joints. Highly innervated, propriorception they are the source for postural information. 2) the superficial paravertebral muscles, which are less richly innervated, thus less information for tonus and posture. Major locomotor muscles though.
