These are non prescription drugs that are used for short term treatment of common minor illnesses

They are convenieint for self treament for minor issues, and decrease health care cost when drug is paid out of pocket
WHat are disadvantages of OTC drugs
They may push back the effective treatment of serious or life threatening issues, may cause relief of symptoms but not the casue

What is homeopathy?
It is a form of self-treatment where people give themselves microdoses of a substance that is thought to cause the ailment
What are some commonly used herbal products?
Aloe, feverfew, chamomile, ginger, garlic, ginseng

What is a drug interaction for chamomile, cranberry, echinacea and evening primrose?
Chamomile may increase risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulants,cranberry decrease elimination of drugs excreted by the kidney, echinacea may interfere with immunosuppressant drugs, primrose may affect antipsychotic drugs
What is a drug interaction for garlic, ginko biloba, and ginger root?
Garlic may interfere with hypoglycemic therapy, ginko biloba may increase risk of bleeding with anticoagulants, ginger root may interfere with cardiac antidiabetic and anticoagulant drugs

Decreases metabolism of drugs, estrogens and psychotherapeutic drugs. increases intensity and duration of the effects of caffeiene
What are possible drug interactions for hawthorn, kava, saw palmetto, st johns wort, and valerian
hawthorn may cause toxicity from cardiac glycosides, kava may increase effects of alcohol, saw palmetto may change hormones in oral contraceptives, st johns worst may cause serotonin syndrome if used with other srotonergic drugs, valerian increase CNS depressison if used with sedatives
