Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors: risk factor and marker
Risk factor: BRCA1,3, HNPCC
CA-125, general ovarian cancer marker,
good for monitoring progress
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Serous cystadenoma
45% of ovarian tumor; benign
frequently bilateral,
filled with fallopian tube like epithelium.
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Serous cystadenocarcinoma
45% of ovarian tumors: malignant
frequently bilateral.
Psamma bodies seen
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Mucinous cystadenoma
Multilocular cyst lined by mucus secreting epithelium
Benign
Intestine-like tissue.
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma
Malignant.
Pseudomyxoma peritonei: intraperitoneal accumulation of mucinous material from ovarian or appendiceal tumor.
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Brenner tumor
Benign and unilateral;
Looks like Bladder (with coffee Beans)
Solild tumor pale, yellow tan in cor and appear encapsulated.
Coffee bean nuclei on H&E staining.
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Fibromas
Bundles of spindle shaped fibroblasts
Meig’s syndrome: ovarian fibroma, ascites, and hydrothorax
Pulling sensation in groin
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Granulosa cell tumor
Secretes estrogen; precocious puberty in kinds
Can cause endometrial hyperplasia/carcinoma in adults
Abnormal uterine bleeding
Call-Exner bodies: small follicles filled with eosinophilic secretion.
Ovarian NON-germ cell tumors:
Krukenberg tumor
GI malignancy met to ovaries,
causing mucin secreting signet cell adenocarcinoma.
