Outer brain structures Flashcards
What is the purpose of the cerebrum
Carries out higher brain functions such as thought, language, vision, and factual memory
What is the cerebrum divided into
2 hemispheres
What are the 2 hemispheres connected by
Corpus callosum
What are the 4 lobes
Frontal, occipital, temporal and parietal
What does the occipital lobe involved in
Vision, interpreting signals coming from the retina
What is the temporal lobe involved in
- Processing auditory information, speech
- Deriving meaning from sensory input and memory
What is the parietal lobe involved in
Touch sensation, movement, memory and calculation
What is the frontal lobe involved in
Lots of different processes including movement, complex thought, planning, reasoning and interpreting emotion
What is the motor cortex involved in
Making a decision to move a body part, stores detailed information about how to carry out a movement, this is developed over time with practise and feedback from sensory areas
