Q

Lipoproteins

A

HDL: High density lipoprotein
* Transports cholesterol to LIVER
* Ideal > 50 mg/dL

Q

HIV/AIDs: Staging

A

Stage 1: HIV Begins
* T helper/CD4 cells >/= 500 cells
* ANtibody +
* Asymptomatic

Stage 2: HIV gets worse
* T helper/CD4 cells: 200-499
* Symptomatic (Lymphadenopathy, weight loss, thrush, fever, diarrhea)

Stage 3: AIDs Begins (10-11 years after HIV)
* T helper/CD4 cells < 200
* Symptomatic: (Malignancy, wasting, dementia, opportunistic infections)

Q

HIV/AIDs: Medications/Treatment

A

ART=antiretrovial therapy
HAART: Highly active antiretroviral therapy

Goal: inhibit HIV replication completely, so viral load is undectectable (<50 copies=undectable)
