- Potent seretonin 5HT reception antagonist
- Precise mode of action unknown, likely to have actions both peripherally and on the CNS
- Max effect 10 mins post IV admin
- Hepatic metabolism

A
Prevention or treatment of nausea and vomiting

What are the 6 adverse effects of ondansetron?
A
- Headache
- Flushing of skin
- Occasional reaction at site of injection
- Drowsiness
- Anxiety and agitation
- Transient visual disturbances

What is the precaution for ondansetron?
A
Not recommended in pregnancy

What is the adult dose of ondansetron?
A
4mg slowly over 2 minutes. May be administered IM if necessary. Repeat once if required after approx 10 mins

What is the paediatric dose of ondansetron?
A
100mcg/kg (to a max of 4mg) slowly over 2 minutes. May repeat once after 10 minutes if required. May be given IM if necessary
