what is tumour lysis syndrome?
destruction of the tumour cells and subsequent release of the cancer cell particles around the body leading to AKI and electrolyte abnormality
what cancers are most likely to cause tumour lysis sydrome?
lymphomas and germ cell tumours
what is the prophylaxis for tumour lysis syndrome?
hydration prior to chemo plus allopurinol
what are the common cancers causing superior vena cava compression?
- small cell lung cancer
- lymphoma
what is the presentation of superior vena cava compression?
- redness and swelling of face
- cyanosis, coma
what is the gold standard investigation of superior vena cava compression?
CT chest
what is the management of of superior vena cava compression?
dexamethasone ASAP + stent/radiotherapy
what are the most common causes of neutropenic sepsis?
pseudomonas and fungal infections
what is the management of neutropenic sepsis?
Tazosin (piperacillin/tazobactam) + gentamicin (if NEWS 7+)
