Occlusal Relationships Flashcards
What are the types of deviations seen from the line of occlusion?
Buccoversion deviation to the buccal side
Linguoversion deviation to the lingual side
Torsiversion torsion
Labioversion deviation is specific to anterior teeth and refers to deviation towards the lip
What are the types of occlusal relationships of the teeth?
Normal occlusion
Class 1 malocclusion
Class 2 malocclusion
Class 3 malocclusion
What are the classes of occlusion based on?
Relationship of the mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary first molar and the buccal groove of the mandibular first molar.
What are the static characteristics of the ideal occlusion?
Molars demonstrate a class 1 relationship
Dentition follow the line of occlusion in their respective arches
Teeth demonstrate an absence of rotation
Tight occlusal contracts exist between the teeth
Maxillary incisors demonstrate 20 - 30% overlap of mandibular incisors
Ideal curve of spee
Ideal curve of Wilson
What are the ideal occlusion functional characteristics?
Bilateral occlusal contacts exist when the mandible is in the retruded contact position
The difference between the intercuspal position and
the retruded contact position is less than or equal to 1mm
During lateral movements of the mandible – contacts
should only exist on the working side and be absent on the non working side.
What is the curve of spee?
Defined as the curvature of the mandibular occlusal plane beginning at the premolar and following the buccal cusps of the posterior teeth, continuing to the terminal molar.
