What is mercantilism?

Displacement, loss of land, cultural assimilation, and introduction of new diseases.
What was the Sovereign Council?
A governing body in New France that advised the governor and the intendant.

A governor of New France known for his strong leadership and military actions.
Describe what/who a Fille du Roi is?
Young women sent to New France to marry settlers and help populate the colony.

Describe the Seigneurial System.
A landholding system where seigneurs owned large tracts of land, and habitants (peasants) worked on it.

What does Coureur de Bois mean?
Runner of the woods.
Explain what the coureur de bois did.
They were independent fur traders who traveled into the wilderness to trade with Indigenous peoples.
What did voyageurs do in the fur trade?
They transported goods and furs by canoe between trading posts and settlements.
What group in New France was responsible for running hospitals, schools, and orphanages?
The Catholic Church.
