Nervous System Flashcards
Two major control systems
Nervous system and endocrine system
What is the endocrine system based on
Hormonal communication
3 important functions of the nervous system
Sensory
Integrative
Motor
Sensory
Identifies change occurring inside and outside of body by using sensory receptors
Integrative
Processes; analyses and interprets changes and makes decisions
Motor
Effects a response by activating muscles or glands
What is the nervous system divided into?
Central nervous system and peripheral nervous system
CNS consists of
Brain and spinal cord
What does the peripheral nervous system consist of?
Somatic NS
autonomic NS
sympathetic
Parasympathetic
What is the somatic NS mostly involved with?
Sensory and motor processes ( touch and moving of a hand)
What is the autonomic NS misty involved in?
Monitoring and regulation of automatic processes (heart rate, digestion)
What are nerves ?
Collections of individual nerve processes
What are nerve bundles called in the CNS?
Tracts
What are nerve bundles called in the PNS
Fibres
What so afferent fibres do?
Convey info to the CNS from the peripheral senses
