what makes up the anterior triangle?
mandible, midline and sternocleidomastoid
what makes up the posterior triangle?
sternocleidomastoid, trapezius and clavicle
what are some superficial swellings?
sebaceous cysts, lipomas and neurofibromas
what are some midline swellings?
thyroid- moves on swallowing, thryoglossal- slightly further down and dermoid cyst
what swellings can you get in the anterior triangle?
lymph nodes, branchial cyst, saliva glands and carotid body tumour
what things are in the posterior triangle?
lymph nodes and cystic hygroma
what is the most common cause of a lump?
lyme nodes
what are some features of cerival lymphadenopathy
hoarseness, fever wL, dyspnoea, travel abroad
what are the investigations for cervical lymphadenopathy?
chest X ray, ENT, Fine needle aspiration
does the thyrogossal cyst move with the tongue?
YES
when is cystic hygroma most commonly presented?
first year of life
what investigations should you use for a thyroid swelling?
TSH and USS with FNA
