Anatomy Flashcards
what does the thyroid gland secrete?
thyroxine, tri-odothyronine and calcitonin
What does the parathyroid hormone secrete?
parathyroid hormone
what os the thyroid gland made up of?
follicles that are made up of follicular cells and colloid tyrosine containing thyroglobulin spheres
what is outside the follicle?
parafollicular C cells
what is the process of iodine storage?
1- iodine taken up by follicular cells 2- iodine attaches to tyrosine residues on thyroglobulin 3- coupling of MIT and DIT 4- stored in colloid thyroglobulin
which stage is inhibited by carbimazole and propylthiouracil
2
what does carbimazole and propylthiouracil treat?
hyperthyroidism
what is T4?
thyroxine
what is a majorly biologically active thyroid hormone?
T3 (triiodothyronine)
Are T3 and T4 hydrophobic or hydrophilic?
Hydrophobic
Are T4 and T3 bound by plasma proteins?
Aye most of them
is bound or unbound Ts/4 available to the tissues?
unbound!
Do thyroid hormones increase responsiveness to adrenaline and sympathetic NS neurotransmitter, noradrenaline by increasing number of receptors?
yes
what are some symptoms of hypothyroidism
reduced BMR, slow pulse, fatigue, lethargy, cold intolerance, tendency to put weight on easily
what are hyperthyroidism sings?
Increased BMR, fast pulse, increased nervousness, sweating, lose weight
