DOSE & ADMINISTRATION OF NALOXONE
D & A
ADULT DOSE: 0.4 - 2 mg SIVP / IM/ IO/ SQ/ ET/ IN. Repeat at 5 minutes intervals to maximum total dose of 10 mg.
PEDI DOSE: 0.1 MG/ kg IV/ IO/ SQ every 2 minute as needed. Maximum total dose of 2 mg.
INDICATIONS OF NALOXONE
INDICATIONS
Opiate overdose, complete or partial reversal of central nervous system and respiratory depression induced by opioids, decreased level of consciousness, coma of unknown origin.
MECHANISM OF ACTION OF NALOXONE
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Competitive inhibition at narcotic reception sites. Reverse respiratory depression secondary to opiate drugs. Complete inhibits the effect of morphine.
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF NALOXONE
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Use with caution in Narcotic-Dependant patients and Neonates of Narcotic-Addicted mothers.

ADVERSE EFFECTS
Restlessness, Seizure, Dyspnea, Pulmonary Edema, Tachycardia, Hypertension, Cardiac Arrest, NV, Withdrawal Symptom in Opioid-addicted patients, Diaphoresis
PRECAUTIONS OF NALOXONE
PRECAUTIONS
Incompatible with alkaline solutions, acute withdraw syndrome may result in a combative patient.
