DOSE and ADMINISTRATION OF GLUCAGON
D and A
ADULT: 1.0 mg IM, may be repeated in 10 minute
Ca and Beta Blocker: OD: 0.05 mg slow IVP followed by a 3 - 10 mg/hour infusion
PEDI HYPOGLYCEMIA: 0.03 - 0.1 mg/kg IM/IO/SQ/SIVP may be repeated in 20 minute.
PEDI Ca and Beta Blocker: 0.05mg/kg IV/IO over 3 - 5 minute, followed by a 0.05 - 0.10 mg/kg/h infusion as necessary.
INDICATION OF GLUCAGON
INDICATIONS
Altered LOC with Hypoglycemia, reversal agent in beta blocker and calcium channel blocker overdoses.
MECHANISM OF ACTION OF GLUCAGON
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Increases BGL by stimulating glycogenolysis. Unknown mechanism of stabilizing cardiac rhythm in beta blocker overdose.
Decreases gastric motility and secretions.
ADVERSE EFFECTS OF GLUCAGON
ADVERSE EFFECTS
Dizziness, headache, hypertension, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, rebound hypoglycemia
PRECAUTIONS OF GLUCAGON
PRECAUTIONS
Not effective if patient does not have any stored glycogen.
