Common Subjective Complaint
Pain
Tenderness
Altered sensation
Inability to move body parts
Edema
Burning, tingling sensation or numbness
Caused by pressure on nerves or by circulatory impairments
Paresthesia
An unsteady, uncoordinated walk with a wide base of support and the feet thrown outward
Shuffling/Ataxic Gait
Consists of a limp adopted so as to avoid pain on weight-bearing structures (as in hip, knee, or ankle injuries)
Festinating/Antalgic Gait
Walking gait
Normal findings
- Has upright posture and steady
- Gait with opposing arm swing
3 Walks unaided, maintains balance
Walking gait
Deviation from normal
- Poor posture and unsteady
- Irregular staggering gait with wide stance, bends legs only from hips
- Has rigid or no arm movement
Abnormal gait: causes
CNS disorders of the brain that causes muscular problems resulting in the gait disturbance
Spinal cord abnormalities
Degenerative muscle diseases
Neurodegenerative illnesses
Skeletal abnormalities and disease
Toxic reactions
