A
  1. Increased doses of Vitamin D (50,000 IU once or twice a week for 6-12 months than 1000 IU/day) along with supplemental calcium
  2. Exposure to sunlight for UV radiation to transform a cholesterol substance (7-dehydrocholesterol) present in the skin into Vitamin D
  3. Diet with adequate protein and increased calcium and Vitamin D
  4. Instruct about dietary sources of calcium and Vitamin D
    • Fortified milk and cereals
    • Eggs
    • Chicken liver
  5. Monitor serum Ca levels
  6. Assit pt to change positions and handle the pt gently
  7. Pillows to support the body
  8. Some persistent orthopedic deformities may need to be treated with braces or surgery
    • Osteotomy may be performed to correct long bone deformity
