Muscle 3 Flashcards
Where does Ca bind to ( which troponin)
Troponin c
What does Ca binding to troponin C do?
Induces a conformational change in the troponin complex and causes it and tropomyosin to move which reveals the myosin binding site on actin
Are myosin heads always in different phases?
Yes
What causes myosin to drop off of actin!
ATP binding to the myosin head
What does myosin hydrolizing ATP do?
It rotates the myosin head so it binds to actin again (with ADP and P still on it)
When does the powerstroke begin?
When the phosphate is released from myosin
When does myosin release ADP?
At the end of the powerstroke
When a contraction takes place, do actin and myosin change length?
No, they slide past eachother
What terminates contraction?
Removal of calcium
What maximize calcium uptake by the sarcoplasmic reticulum?
Calsequestrin and calreticulin
What is the SERCA pump powered by?
ATP
What causes rigor mortis?
Calcium leaking into the sarcoplasm and binding to troponin
