Q

What is the disease mechanism of coeliac disease?

A
  • Autoimmune disorder, in which gluten (gliadin) is the antigen targeted
    1. Gliadin-specific T cells are activated
    2. T cells activate production of Ig by plasma cells and inflammatory cytokines by T cells
    3. Enterocytes are damaged
    4. Loss of villi architecture results
