What is Focal Nodular Hyperplasia?
Benign nodule formation of normal liver tissue.
Hypervascular mass with a central scar.
Do not treat
What is Hepatic Adenoma?
Benign neoplasm composed of normal hepatocytes.
May progress to malignancy.
What are risk factors for hepatic adenomas?
female
contraceptive hormones
anabolic hormones
What is a Hydatid Cyst?
Parasitic infection of the liver
Treatment:
- drain the cyst (cystectomy)
- Albendazole (anti-parasitic)
What is Polycystic Liver Disease (PLD)?
Embryonic ductal plate malformation of the intrahepatic biliary tree
What is Von Meyenburg complexes (VMC) disease?
Benign cystic nodules throughout the liver.
Malformations of the cystic bile duct.

Hep B

What is the CPx of hepatocellular carcinoma?
- weight loss
- worsening of pre-existing liver disease
- acute liver failure
- hard enlarged RUQ mass
- liver bruit
What is used as a tumour marker for hepatocellular carcinoma?
AFP (Alfa fetoprotein)
>100 ng/ml indicates HCC
Best treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma?
Liver transplantation
What is the hallmark of Fibro-Lamellar Carcinoma on CT?
stellate scar with radial septa showing persistent enhancement
