MSK 14 - Nerve-II Flashcards
What does white matter and grey matter typically consist of?
Grey Matter - cell bodies, axons, dendrites, glial cells, and synapses
White Matter - myelinated axons, glial cells, vessels
What part of the brain is the cerebral cortex? What does this region contain?
The cerebral cortex is the most anterior brain region and consists of an outer zone of neural tissue called gray matter, which contains neuronal cell bodies arranged in layers.
How many layers does the cerebral cortex have? Which of those layers contains pyramidal cells?
6 layers
Layers 3 and 5 contrain pyramidal cells
What does the inner layer of the cerebrum contain? What do these components do?
Facts to know about the cerebellar cortex.
Label micrograph and say what type of tissue it is
Cerebellar cortex
Facts to know about the purkinje cells of the cerebellar cortex.
What components of the spinal cord is grey or white matter? What do each of these components contain?
What is neuropil and what does it contain?
How do alpha motor neurons appear in a light micrograph?
Which of the meningeal layers is innervated and/or vascularized?
The dura mater is both vascular and innervated
The arachnoid mater is neither
The pia mater is vascularized
What/Where is the choroid plexus? What is it composed of and what does it do?
