Ms16 Associative Learning and Social Behavior Flashcards
What is Operant Conditioning?
learning by “trial and error”
learning by positive/negative reinforcement
what is Classical Conditioning?
pairing a specific behavior with an unrelated stimulus
what is the goal of Classical Conditioning?
to establish a conditioned response to a conditioned stimulus
what is one example of Classical Conditioning?
Pavlov’s Dogs
what were Pavlov’s Dogs?
were trained to pair an innate stimulus(salivating) with a learned stimulus(bell)
What is Aversion Therapy?
relating a conditional response to an undesired stimulus in the hopes of stopping to have the undesired response
example of Aversion Therapy?
Rubber band with smoker
What is Phobia Therapy
Associating pleasant sensations Conditioned Stimulus with an undesired stimulus in the hopes of eliminating an undesired response
Do only animals exhibit behavior?
NO! All organisms respond to stimuli(character of life)
what effects sets of behaviors?
The more complex a nervous system, the more complex the set of behaviors
What is an example of non-animal behavior?
photo-tropism
what is photo-tropism?
the growth of plants towards light
What is gravi-tropism?
roots growth depending on gravity
what are the negative and positive effects of gravi-tropism?
Positive:roots grow with gravity
Negative: shoot grows against gravity
is A dog sits when given the command “sit.”
classical or operant?
classical
