Movements of Joints Flashcards
What makes up the sternocostal joint? What movements happen at this joint?
sternum + costal cartilages
movements:protraction, retraction, rotation, elevation, depression
What makes up the costovertebral joint? What movements happen here?
ribs and thoracic vertebrae
small degree of gliding
What makes up the sternoclavicular joint? What movements happen here?
manubrium of sternum and clavicle
elevation, depression, retraction, protraction, rotation
What makes up the acromioclavicular joint? What movements happen here?
acromion of scpaula + clavicle
gliding
What makes up the scapulothoracic joint? What movements occur here
scapula and thorax (physiological joint)
upward/downward rotation, elevation/depresson, retraction/protraction
What makes up the glenohumeral joint + what movements happen here?
glenoid cavity of the scapula and the head of the humerous
flexion, extension, horizontal adduction/abduction, abduction/adduction, medial/lateral rotation, circumduction
What is an axis in relation to joint movement?
for each movement at a certain joint an axis is needed, movement happens around this axis
If a muscle is at the level of the axis does it produce the movement of that axis?
no, if muscle is at the level of axis it doesn’t do the movement
The axis of flex/ext of the GHJ is oriented __________
medially-laterally
The axis of ab/add of GHJ is oriented __________
anteriorly-posteriorly
The axis of rotation of GHJ is oriented ________
vertically
Any muscle that passes/inserts anterior to the axis of flex/ext of GHJ is able to do what motion @ GHJ?
Flexion
Any muscle that passes/inserts posterior to the axis of flex/ext of GHJ is able to do what movement @ GHJ?
extension
Any muscle that passes/inserts laterally to the axis of ab/add of GHJ is able to do what movement @ GHJ?
Abduction
Any muscle that passes/inserts medially to the axis of ab/add of GHJ is able to do what movement at the GHJ?
adduction
