Anterior Neck Muscles Flashcards
What nerve innervates the scalene muscles?
ventral rami of the cervical spinal nerves at the corresponding level
What is the origin of the anterior scalene?
TP of C3-C6
What is the insertion of the anterior scalene?
scalene tubercle of the 1ist rib
What are the functions of the anterior scalene?
flexion of neck @ spinal joints, the elevation of rib 1 during deep inhalation @ sternocostal and costospinal joints, lateral flexion of neck @ spinal joint
What is the origin of the middle scalene
TP of C2- C7
What is the insertion of the middle scalene?
1st rib
What are the functions of the middle scalene?
flexion of neck @ spinal joints, the elevation of rib 1 during deep inhalation @ sternocostal and costospinal joints, lateral flexion of neck @ spinal joint
What is the origin of the posterior scalene?
TP of C5-C7
What is the insertion of the posterior scalene?
2nd rib
What are the function so posterior scalene?
elevation of rib 2 during deep inhalation @ sternocostal and costospinal joints, lateral flexion of neck @ spinal joint
How are the hyoid muscles subdivided?
2 group x4 muscles each: infrahyoid and suprahyoid
Where do the infrahyoid muscles attach to the hyoid and what are their common functions?
attach inferiorly to the hyoid and they depress the hyoid
Where do the suprahyoid muscles attach to the hyoid and what are their common function?
attach superiorly to the hyoid and they elevate the hyoid
What muscles are in the infrahyoid group?
sternohyoid, omohyoid, sternothyroid, thyrohyoid
What muscles are in the suprahyoid group?
digastric, stylohyoid, mylohyoid, geniohyoid
