what is fredrick Taylor’s theory of motviation?
he suggests that employee’s are money motivated and motivation will increase if monatary means of motivation exsist such as piece rates.
limitations of taylors theory?
- he was an engineer not a psychologists therefore he was concerened with the increased productivity of the business rather than the well-being of the employee
- outdated, job satisfaction wasnt really a common concept.
what was Elton’s mayo’s theory?
his main conclusions are:
- employee’s respond to changes in working environment such as increasing the lighting
- a sense of recognition
- working in groups
- communication with management
limitations of Mayo’s theory?
difficult to generalise as it took place in one part in one industry “hawthawn.”
what was McClelland’s theory?
- need for achievement - if someone is drive by achievement
- need for affiliation - enjoy’s social interaction is a team player
- need for power - driven by responsibility and control .
what is herzberg’s two factor theory?
hygiene - good working environment, health and safety,
motivation - praise, responsibility, recognition.
he suggests that none of these will be effective unless both happen together.
maslow’s heirarchy of needs?
physiological - shelter, water and food (breaks)
safety - job security and health and safety
social - love and belonging, being part of a team
esteem - respect from others
self-actualisation - concerned with personal growth
victor vroom?
- expectancy = does the employee think they are able to reach the target or objective
- valence = whether the employee puts value of achieving the task
formula = Force of action (f) = (e x v)
