what is Mcgregor “X&Y” theory?
he believed that the way management perceived worker to be and behave determines their leadership style.
theory x - is when management believes that their employee’s do not like work, responsibility and need to constantly be supervised and monitored or forced to carry out tasks. (authoritarian.)
theory y - this suggest the management believe the staff want to work and enjoy being creative having responsibility etc…
what is blake and moutons theory?
they use a managerial grid which on the y axis is concern for employee’s and on the x axis is concern for tasks. the gird has three separate categorises including:
- impoverished management - not focused on either
- country-club - focused on just employee’s
- authoritarian management - focus on team not employee’s
- team management - degree of concern for both
- middle of the road - compromising all aspects.
what is tannembaun & schmidts continum?
a continum ranging from 1-7 between use of authority by managers and use of freedome for subordinates.
1- manager takes and announces decisions
2- managers sell decisons to team
3- managers presents decision with team and invites ideas.
4- manager suggets a provisonal decision and invites discusion
5- manager presents the situation and gains feedback
6- managers explains, defines
7- managers allows team to make decisions
