internal processes such as needs, thoughts and emotions that give behaviour energy and direction

EFFORT- intensity of effort
CHOICE- direction of effort
PERSISTENCE- maintenance of effort over time

the reason behind people’s choices
Do motives change overtime?
yes they do, people may start an exercise routine for health reasons but continue for social benefits
Trait-centered vs situation-centered views on situation
Trait-Motivation is driven by individual characteristics like personality and needs
situation- motivation is influenced by the environment or situation
what is Interactional view of motivation?
the best way to understand motivation is through the interaction of personality and situation
What is the 3 behavioural approach to motivation and what are they?
Behavioural approach- focus on conditioning and learning from the environment
Operant conditioning- behaviour is shaped by rewards and punishment
Vicarious conditioning- learning through observation
What is the cognitive approach to motivation?
emphasizes the role of thought patterns and cognitive habits (automatic thoughts, cognitive errors, and beliefs can be changed to improve motivation
What is the COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL APPROACH to motivation?
Thoughts, emotions, and behaviours all interact (cognitive influence emotions, behaviours influence thought patterns )
