Q

How does the research method affect the answer to the question of age and intelligence.

A

Researchers using the cross sectional method were not only studying people of different ages, but they also studied people from different education levels and backgrounds. So, it can be hard to tell if intelligence has declined because of age or because of outside factors.

Researchers using the longitudinal study observe the same people throughout the course of their life which allows for more stable answers and they can take into account other variables.

Q

What is the research based relationship between IQ and well being, and why researchers think this is?

A

Children and adults who have higher IQ’s tend to live better lives.

  1. Intelligence=more education=better jobs and a healthier environment
  2. Intelligence=healthy living=less smoking, better diet, and more exercise
  3. Prenatal events or childhood illnesses may have influenced intelligence and health
  4. Intelligent people tend to be quick witted and they respond to stimuli faster
