Emotion
Emotion
or affect, is a complex psychological process that is distinguished from reason or knowledge
Facial-feedback hypothesis
suggests that the experience of emotion is influenced by facial expressions
Broaden-and-build theory of emotion
proposes that positive emotional experiences tend to broaden awareness and encourage new actions and thoughts
Universal emotions
Anger, disgust, sadness, happiness, surprise, and fear
Display rules
a socially learned standard that regulates the expression of emotion. Display rules vary by culture; for example, the expression of anger may be considered appropriate in some cultures but not in others
elicitors
a facial emotional expression (e.g., a disgusted face) activates a response that is similar to responses to other emotional stimuli of the same valence
