Mitosis Flashcards
What is mitosis?
asexual reproduction ;
PPMAT
Prophase
Prometaphase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
Gametes
Somatic Cells
(non reproductive cells) have two sets of chromosomes
- undergos mitosis
Gametes
(reproductive cells: sperm and eggs) have half as many chromosomes as somatic cells
Chromatids
each of the two threadlike strands into which a chromosome divides
Centromere
the narrow “waist” of the duplicated chromosome, where the two chromatids are most closely attached
Cytokinesis
the only stage that has actual cell division
- occurs through cleavage furrow
What are the subphases of interphase?
G1 Phase
S Phase
G2 Phase
G1 Phase
G1 checkpoint it’s decided if the cell should be replicated or not
What happens if a cell decides not to divide at the G1 checkpoint?
G0 phase is maintaining cell
S Phase
- chromosomes are duplicated only during the S phase
- stands for DNA synthesis
G2 Phase
The second growth phase starts to prepare the cells with newly replicated DNA for entry into the mitosis phase by putting in place the necessary organelles for mitosis
G2 Checkpoints
checks if 2 of everything is ready ; if not, apoptosis occurs
M Checkpoint
Checks if mitosis happened correctly ; if not, the cell undergoes apoptosis
