A

Child <15 years with a recent viral/bacterial infection

What organism causes the adenitis?

A

Yersinia enterocoliticia

Gram -ve (gut)
bacillus

Clinical features of mesenteric adenitis?

A

Diffuse abdominal pain
Low grade fever
generalised abdominal tenderness

Investigations and how to differentiate from appendicitis?

A

US abdomen : enlarged mesenteric lymph node normal appendix

FBC will be normal unlike appendicitis which has raised WCC

How to manage mesenteric adenitis?

A
  • Self Limiting therefore supportive carepain management and adequate hydration.
  • Pain may take 2-4 weeks to resolve.
