What is Kawasaki Disease?
Systemic, medium sized vessel vasculitis seen in under 5s
Which demographic is more affected by kawasaki disease?
Asian : japanese and korean
When to suspect kawasaki?
In a child with fever 5+ days and CRASH symptoms
What are the CRASH symptoms?
Conjunctivitis
Rash (polymorph)
Adenopathy (cervical lymph nodes)
Strawberry tongue
Hand and feet disease
What type of rash is seen in kawasaki disease?
Widespread erythematous maculopapular rash and desquamation on palms and soles
What will be seen on blood test?
Raised ESR
Anaemia, leukocytosis
thrombocytosis
How to manage Kawasaki disease?
High Dose Aspirin → reduce risk of thrombosis. (Despite high-dose usually being contraindicated in children).
How to manage and reduce risk of coronary artery aneurysm in kawasaki?
IV immuniglobulins
