What happened in the invasion of Ireland?
- Henry sent and army over to assist but the knights and barons who went used it as an opportunity to seize lands for themselves.
- by the mid 1170s the English controlled more land than the Irish
How did Henry II use his control of Ireland?
- Used it to strengthen and build new fortifications
- to develop Dublin as a centre for trade and commerce
- giving Henry more money and extra defence against invading forces

- promised to respect the rights of the barons and to stop unfair taxes
