What is the definition of pre-ride?
A regularly scheduled practice ride on the race course that takes place at designated times, generally on the same weekend as the race.
Student-athletes are given the opportunity to participate in a practice ride of the race course whenever possible.
Who is allowed to ride the race course during pre-ride?
Only student-athletes with their team coaches.
Coach-to-student-athlete ratios must be maintained.
What is required for student-athletes and coaches during pre-ride?
They must have their number plate attached to their bike.
This is a requirement at the yellow level.
When is pre-ride allowed on event weekends?
Limited to the time designated by the MCA.
Pre-ride times will be published by the MCA and may be announced or amended at the event.
Can student-athletes and coaches ride the course outside designated pre-ride times?
No, they cannot ride outside designated pre-ride times on event weekends.
They are responsible for knowing and obeying the start and end times of pre-ride.
In what direction is riding allowed during pre-ride?
Only in the direction of the race.
Riding backwards on the course is not permitted.
What must student-athletes or coaches do if they need to backtrack on the course?
They must walk.
This is a requirement at the orange level.
Can student-athletes or coaches modify the course during pre-ride?
No, they may not add or remove obstacles deemed part of the race course by race officials.
Any hazards or concerns should be reported to a Course Marshal or Race Director.
