Maxillary artery Flashcards
what muscle divides the maxillary artery into its 3 sections ?
lateral pterygoid
what are the parts of the first section of the maxillary artery ?
mandibular part:
- deep auricular
- anterior tympanic
- middle meningeal
- accessory meningeal
- inferior alveolar
what does the deep auricular branch supply ?
TMJ , external auditory canal , outer surface of ear drum
what does the anterior tympanic branch of the maxillary artery supply ?
tympanic cavity ( middle ear )and inner surface of ear drum
what does the middle meningeal brach supply ?
skull bones and dura mater
deep auricular and anterior tympanic lie within the parotid gland
–
how does the middle meningeal branch enter the skull?
through foramen spinous
what does the accessory meningeal artery supply ?
dura mater ( enters through foramen ovale)
what does the inferior alveolar artery supply ?
lower teeth
what are the foramen associated with the inferior alveolar artery ?
it enters through the mandibular foramen
it also passes through the mental foramen and becomes the mental artery
why is the middle meningeal considered a dangerous artery ?
if any trauma is directed to the skull the artery will bleed because it is so superficial
what are the sections of the second section of the maxillary artery ?
pterygoid part :
- massetric
- deep temporal
- pterygoid
- buccul
what are the parts of the 3rd section of the maxillary artery ?
Pterygopalatine :
-posterior superior alveolar
- infra-orbital
- desending palatine
- sphinopalatine
- artery of pterygoid canal
- pharyngeal artery
what does the posterior superior alveolar artery supply?
it supplies the upper molars and pre molars
what does the infraorbital artery supply ?
lower eyelid , side of nose , upper lip , oral mucosa .
