Mandibular nerve Flashcards
where does the mandibular nerve originate from ?
trigeminal nerve (V cranial nerve)
what are the branches from the trunk ?
- ) meningeal branch ( supplies durameter )
2. ) nerve to medial pterygoid (motor)
what are the branches of the anterior division of the mandibular nerve ?
3 motor :
- massetric
- deep temporal
- nerve to lateral pterygoid
1 sensory :
-Buccul
what are the branches of the posterior division of the mandibular nerve ?
3 sensory :
-Auriculotemporal nerve
- lingual nerve
- inferior alveolar nerve
motor :
-Mylohyoid
what does the auriculotemporal nerve supply ?
TMJ , parotid gland , auricule , and temple
the lingual nerve is considered to be in a dangerous position because :
it is only covered by mucous membrane).
inferior alveolar nerve goes through mandibular foramen to supply lower teeth
also emerges from mental foramen as mental nerve to supply lower lip snd chin
(similar to inferior alveolar artery )
–
what does the myohyoid nerve supply ?
mylohyoid and anterior belly of digastric muscles
