Math Flashcards
Measurement and Data
Addition
Joining or putting together
Subtracting
Seperating, Removing, Distancing, Comparing Differences
Multiplication
Total number of equal groups, area, scaling, comparing multiplication, (e.g. three times as much.)
Division
How many in ea. group/portion.
How many groups/portions
Directly Proportional Equations
y=4x, y=8x, y= x/5, y=2/3x
Rate of change
m= y2-y1/x2-x1 Example: 200-75/8-3=25
Unit Rate
Divide numerator by denominator. Example, $900/4nights =$225/1 night or $1443/7nights= $206.14/1 night
Expressions, Equations & Inequalities
Expressions: 9-2y, -x, 3(x-12); Equations: 9-2y=27, x=8, -3(x-12)=2(x-5); Inequalities: 9-2y<27x, x<8, -3(x-12)>=2(3x+15)
At least
Means greater than or equal to. Example: 20w+ 15+>=255
No more than
Less than or equal to. Example: 5P+45 <=70
Bivariate
Graphs containing 2 variables
Bar graph
A graph that uses vertical or horizontal bars to represent quantities. Bar graphs are used to compare things between different groups or responses (i.e. showing the various responses of a population or when asked their favorite color).
Pie chart
A circular graph with slices suggestive of a pie; the larger the slice, the greater the quantity being represented. Pie chart is used to display how a whole population is broken down into certain parts (i.e. how someone spends the 24 hr in 1 day.).
Scatterplot
A graph that uses dots to represent data points to show relationships between 2 numeric variables. Scatterplots are used to represent a correlation (positive, negative, or non between two variables).
Table
A set of data displayed in rows and columns
