LVOs Flashcards
Where would you find specific airfield LVPs
Airfield AOI pages. Usually less than 600m RVR
When is it a low vis take-off?
<400m RVR
What are EASA Cat 2 limits
RVR >= 300m and DH between 100/200ft
What are EASA Cat 3a limits?
RVR down to 200m DH<100ft
What are Cat3b limits
RVR75m and No DH
is CAT 3c authorised in EASA?
No, in the US though, no DH or RVR
What is the definition of Alert Height?
Height above which any failure occurs you shall go around. 100ft in A320. Required for Fail operational systems.
What is the definition of Fail Operational?
Failure below AH, can complete the landing with remaining part of the system. Now operates as fail-passive.
How would you know if Fail Operational on A320?
See Cat 3 Dual
What is the definition of fail passive?
No significant out of trim condition if a failure occurs but an autoland cannot be continued. Minimum DH for fail passive is 50ft.
How would you know if Fail Passive on A320?
Cat 3 Single CAT3A only
What are the Autoland Wind limits?
Headwind 30kts, 20kt Xwind, 10kt Tail
When do the runway edge lights change to amber?
600m or 1/3 of runway whichever is less.
How long do the TDZ lines run into a runway?
900m
For RVRs below 200m for take -off, how many are required?
All of them need to be given and above the minimum. Pilot assessment for TDZ is permitted.
Is the stop end needed on landing?
Only if relevant. 60kts
Use IFLD
Why LTS cat 1?
Allows you to use onboard equipment to make up for lack of ground facilities.
400m RVR
What do you call at minima if you see something?

Below 800m
When can you reduce below 150m RVR for Take-off?
LVPs
15m Centreline
60m Edge Lights
A 90m visual segment is needed at the start of the take-off run.
RVR for all relevant points 125m or above.
With a 125m RVR take-off how many lights do you need to see at the start of the roll?
90m so need to see 7 as you cannot be sure how far you are away from the first.
If you are overweight and need to return what is the max landing capability?
Cat 1
What is the minimum RVR for the MID and Rollout?
125m and 75m
MID can drop below 125m to 75m or TDZ requirement. Need Auto rollout in this case.
