Lungs And Gas Exchange Flashcards
In order to get energy what do our cells need
Cellular respiration which oxygen is needed for it
Order of breathing
When we breathe in air first passes through our mouth or nose then down the trachea (wind pipe)
Then divide between our to bronchi then further divide between ‘branch like’ structures called bronchioles
Then it reaches our sacs called alveoli (the site of gas exchange)
What is a single alveoli called?
Allveolus
How is the alveoli adapted ?
•The alveoli is made up of very small cells which allows diffusion between carbon dioxide and oxygen to be increased
•They also have a large surface area instead of having one alveoli adults have hundreds of millions of alveoli which can cover (half a tennis court)
The alveoli walls are moist which allows the gases to dissolve which increases the rate of diffusion
What happened to the blood in the capillaries
Gives a lot of oxygen to the tissues which means it won’t have enough left so it will be shown as blue then the alveoli diffuses oxygen into the rbc blood cells making it oxygenated
When there is carbon dioxide (dissolved by blood plasma) it is breathed out
Equation for breathing rate
Number of breathes/Number of minutes taken=Breathing rate
Which substance inside the red blood cell does oxygen bind to
Haemoglobin
