Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
Active transport
A
The movement of molecules against the concentration gradient
Lower concentration to higher concentration
It happens in the cell membrane
Needs special proteins
It also needs respiration
2
Q
Where is active transport used example:
A
In plants (that need to absorb a lot of water)
The problem is their is a higher concentration inside the cell then outside the cell so diffusion can’t be used. So active transport has to be used from cellular respiration such as mitchondria
3
Q
What is root hair cell for and how are they adapted
A
Absorbing mineral ions and water
They are adapted by having long hair like protrusions which gives it a large surface area
