Lumbar/Sacroliac Special Tests Flashcards
What are 6 Lumbar/Sacroiliac special tests?
- Gapping test
- Sacroiliac joint stress test
- Sitting Flexion Test
- Slump Test
- Standing Flexion test
- Straight Leg Raise Test
What is the gapping test? (DISTRACTION TEST)
pt supine, therapist crosses arms and applies pressure in downward and lateral direction to each ASIS
DISTRACTION TEST/GAPPING TEST FOR ANTERIOR SI LIGAMENTS
Positve: pain in SI, gluteus or posterior leg. Indicates sprain of anterior SI ligaments
What is the Sacroiliac Joint Stress Test?
Pt in supine. Therapist crosses their arms, placing palms of hands on pts ASIS.
-PT applies downward and lateral force to pelvis
Positve: unilateral pain in SI or gluteal area may indicate SI joint dysfunction
What is the Sitting Flexion Test?
Pt in sitting with knees at 90 and feet on floor. Pt hips should be abducted to allow the patient to bend forward. The PT places his/her thumb on the inferior margin of the PSIS and monitors movement of bony structure as pt bends forward.
Positive: one PSIS moving farther in cranial direction indicating articular restriction
What is the standing flexion test?
Pt standing with feet 12 inches apart
-PT places hands on inferior margin of PSIS and monitors as pt bends forward
Positive: one PSIS moving farther in cranial direction indicating an articular restriction
What is the SLR?
PT flexes hip while maintaining knee extension and continues until pt complains of pain or tightness in low back or posterior leg. PT lowers leg until pt feels no pain or tightness, pt then dorsiflexes ankle
Positive: neural tension or lesion within spinal cord
