LPCI Surveillance Flashcards
What type of pre-startup checks have to be performed on a LPCI Pump?
Valve lineup, oil levels, and general pump conditions
What is the minimum LPCI Pump discharge pressure allowed to prevent pump runout and cavitation?
LPCI and CS pump discharge should be maintained above 100psig to prevent runout and cavitation.
If cavitation detected, throttle discharge/outlet valve closed to reduce pump flow and raise discharge pressure
How can LPCI Lineup drain the RPV?
WITH SDC IN SERVICE: DO NOT HAVE THE FOLLOWING OPEN SIMULTANEOUSLY LPCI INBRD INJ : 1501-22A(B) TORUS CLG/TEST 1501-20A(B) TORUS CLG/TEST 1501-38A(B)
OR 1501-22A(B) 1501-21A(B) 1501-19A(B) TORUS SPRAY 1501-18A(B) TORUS SPRAY
OR 1501-22A(B) 1501-21A(B) 1501-28A(B) 1501-27A(B)
What is meant by a “START” of a LPCI Pump?
Motor start is defined as a motor energized for a sufficient amount of time to accelerate to normal speed. After one motor start, the pump is no longer considered to be at ambient temperatures.
How can a LPCI Test create a Water Hammer Condition?
With LPCI Pump Operating and system in “TEST MODE”
FLow test valves 1501-38 and 20 open
Loss of power to LPCI Pump
Downstream piping will gravity drain to torus
subsequent LPCI system initiation will inject water into “empty” piping and Torus
What NEEDS to be done following a LPCI Pump trip lined up for testing?
Following a loss of power to LPCI Pump and ECCS Keep Fill, LPCI Piping would drain to torus due to elevation difference.
TO minimize risk of water hammer:
Immediately close 20 and 28 valves
LPCI system must be filled and vented (both subsystems) in 4 hours
What are the LPCI Pump Start limitations?
Normal Start:
Two starts from AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
ONE Start from rated motor temp
Additional starts:
After 40 minutes idle time
After 18 minutes running time
Why is there a difference between the LPCI system flow rate test and the pump operability test?
The LPCI System flow rate test checks for the system flow rate with multiple pump running in different combinations - >9000gprm at 104psig discharge
LPCI Pump Operability tests the capability of a single pump:
5000 to 5050 gpm at discharge of >125psig.
When an initation signal is present, when may a LPCI Pump be shutdown?
Unit Supervisor permission is required and prior to stopping LPCI Operation, RPV level must be verified by multiple level indications to assure core is covered.
If not required:
Verify:
Rx is shutdown and LPCI System injection is NOT requried to maitnain level OR
Analysis of plant parameters confirms initiation signal to be spurious OR
Lpci system shutdown directed by DEOPs
AND
Obtain US permission
What is required if LPCI pump rusn for extend periods on min flow?
If during performance of LPCI Pp test, the pp runs for greater than 10 minutes through min flow line, then Notify IST coordinator to evaluate effects on pump
WHy is it important to notify Chemistry that plant is operating w/ cooling lake in bypass in reference to Sodium Hypochlorite addition?
When lake bypassed, chem additions may only be performed if sufficient dilution is provided to ensure that no NPDES discharge limits exceeded.
If 2B LPCI Pump provides less than 5000gpm during the surveillance, what are the actions required/
Declare INOP and enture 30 day LCO
What is minimum discharge pressure for LPCI and why?
100 psig to prevent pump runout and cavitation
