Core Spray Flashcards
What does it mean by a Core SPray Pump Exceeding its capabilities?
Pump discharge pressure should be maintained above 100psig to prevent pump runout and cavitation.
If too low, then throttle discharge outlet valve to raise pressure
If CS pump operates for >10 minutes during surveillance only through min flow (750gpm), contact IST coordinator for evaluation
How can Water Hammer be created when testing CS?
When operating in “TEST MODE”, the following sequence could lead to excessive water hammer:
CS in test mode
Loss of power to running CS pump and ECCS Keep Fill Pump
Subsequent CS Initiation
What steps must be taken to prevent water hammer conditions upon CS Trip during testing?
If the runing CS Pump trips and Torus Test Return Line Valve is open, the valve must be closed IMMEDIATELY.
TO restore to OPERABLE< the CS System must be vented. To maintian probability of LOCA and CS unavailability acceptably low, CS must be vented w/in 4 hrs.
What are teh CS Motor Start Limitations?
For initial start, two successive start attempts are permitted.
When motor running for >18 minutes, on restart attempt is permitted without waiting time restriction
When motor has run for <18 minutes, a subsequent start (rated temp startup) requires a 40 minute cooldown period before restart
The CS Surveillance requires 235psig pressure and Tech Spec requires 90 psig, why the difference?
Tech Spec pressure corresponds to 90 psig in the vessel. The pressure datat for operability is taken at pump dischage. The pressure drop is from pump to vessel.
What are the surveillance limitations for running CS at min flow?
10 minutes. Contact IST coordinated to evaluate pump for degraded operation
If CS Breaker trips whil running a Pump at rated flow, what actions must be taken?
Immediately close the FLOW TEST VALVE and vent CS System w/in 4 hours
What actions need to be taken if CS pump was unable to satisfy acceptance criteria of it’s surveillance?
Declare it inoperable and take required actions per TS LCO
What is the CS condition during it’s run surveillance? Why?
INOPERABLE -
The closed stroke time of MO 2(3)-1402-4A/B is longer than the time assumed in LOCA analysis for CS to achieve required flow.
CS is declared inop during surveillance and if 4/AB throttled open for 37 seconds
What associated with CS surveillance can be performed to minimize risk of water hammer?
Minimize time running with full flow test valve open
What are the required running acceptance criteria for CS Pp?
when CS Pp can be started and achieves discharge pressure of >=235psig with flow between 4600 and 4650 gpm
