gravity infusion
—the iv bag uses gravity to pull the medication into the body.as the gravity pulls down; it brings the medication with it
Drip chamber-
plastic bag that drips into the iv system. This iv will go into blood one drip at a time
Macrodrip set-
iv bag that allows for larger amounts of iv solutions to drip then regular bag
Microdrip set-
iv bag that allows for much smaller amounts of iv solution to drip then regular bag, used in heavy moderation
Phlebitis
- when a vein starts to become inflamed close to skin.
Infiltration
—when the tube has been put into the skin, and the fluid is staring to leak into not where it’s supposed to be, like tissues- this fluid does not hurt the tissue
Extravasation
- when the tube has been put into the skin, and the fluid is staring to leak into not where it’s supposed to be, like tissues- this fluid does hurt the tissue
Roller clamp-
this clamp allows for fluids to flow at the specific rate that it is supposed to flow at. You have control over how much flows
Intravenous
- goes inside of vein
Prime tubing-
this is when you put fluid into the iv tube that will then remove all the air in the rube, so the patient can get all of the solution rather than just air included
Secondary (Piggyback)
—a second medication that is added to the iv site. This allows for two medications to be placed so that they only need one iv sites, not two
IV pump—
pump that allows for the delivery of fluids to go directly into the body of the patient, and allows for the control of substances
