Nasogastric tube—
Tube that goes from nose all the way into stomach. This tube is used for getting food into system
Blue pigtail-
pigtail drains are used to get fluids out of lungs/abdomen and is inserted into chest.
PEG tube—
Tube that goes directly into stomach, through the abdominal. This helps to put food directly into stomach, without having to go from mouth and esophagus first.
Intermittent feeding-
Also known as bolus feeding, this feeding is done by feeding around 4-6 times a day. Each feeding period lasts around 15-40 minutes.
Continuous feeding
—Feeding that is done through a tube, but the food is constantly being administered at a content rate every day.
Aspirate—
means to suck into body. This is used in feeding by the patient sucking food into their body
Dumping Syndrome—
Syndrome where after eating food, the gastric system works faster than it should work, causing food to move into intestines faster than it usually should
Dysphagia
—difficulty swallowing
Enteral nutrition—
General term used for tube feeding. This is just when food goes straight from food into digestive system
Jejunostomy—
Procedure where they open the jejunum, so they can get food direly into the small intestine
NPO—
nothing by mouth
Gastric pH—
The acidity level inside of the stomach. This level should eb around 1.5-2
Gastrostomy tube
—Tube that goes directly into stomach. This is used for feeding food t patient direct into stomach
Residual volume-
After maximum expiration from patient, the amount of air that remains in lungs
Refeeding syndrome
—When the patient goes through a time where they dint eat very much or at all, you have to reintroduce food slowly until they get back to normal levels. If introduce too fast then refeeding syndrome happens, which could cause death
